Big Blue Adventures

Picture the scene, you’re waist deep in the brisk sea on a beautiful Welsh coastline, you can taste the salt spray frothing around you, the wind in your hair and surfboard in hand. You feel the swell and you know for sure, this is your wave. Paddling with both exuberance and determination you know it’s now or never and so you pop up on your board and you realise with almost disbelief, you are actually doing it, you are riding the wave; you are floating on air, its joy, its adventure and its freedom all in one and you feel like king of the ocean.

We were lucky enough to experience an amazing activity weekend of both surfing in the gorgeous Gower and canyoning in the beautiful Brecon Beacons. The crew at Big Blue certainly set the tone from the word go, as you board the buss to your adventure there are big smiles all round and pictures taken throughout to capture your day. On hand professional surf instructors guide you through beginner surf techniques so that you’ll be standing atop your board in no time! Then it’s off to the pub for a celebratory and well deserved pint with the team. We managed some spectacular wipe outs in our session, at one point I found myself upside down, underneath someone else’s board whilst attempting to removed seaweed from my hair. Surfing it would seem, requires a level of grace and agility that I suspect I am lacking in.bb4

The canyoning crew are equally as insightful and encouraging. It is no small feat for an adventure novice to be leaping off waterfalls of a Sunday afternoon, but under the care of supportive and zany instructors you soon find yourself crawling under waterfalls and scrambling up rocks like a seasoned pro. Anxious husband Luke was reassured by instructors all the way, they even managed to suppress laughter as he shrieked ‘I don’t like it when my wife goes over waterfalls’. Poor lamb, he did a marvellous job of being out of his comfort zone.

What made the day for us was the extra touches, the complimentary drink at the end, the presentation and prize giving of ‘best wipe out’ and the fun team who go above and beyond to ensure you have the best day possible.bb2

So why pick Big Blue as your go to tour operator? “We love to help our guests explore with a difference and have incrediblememories, ‘Explore Evolve Enjoy’ is our manta” enthuses Big Blue MD Daniel Manley. “For a Big Blue Adventure, it doesn’t matter if you are a pro surfer, or have never even surfed or done activities like this before, we have the right instructors to manage all confidence levels and abilities. On our trips there is something for everyone who is looking to do something different; have some fun, overcome some hurdles perhaps and mainly have an adventure! Our best buzz from the job is seeing people who have never done something like this before – beaming with smiles at the end of the day and just saying ‘wow – when can I go again?”

Adventure seekers should book a trip immediately visiting the Big Blue website or by contacting them on Facebook or on Twitter
