I love a girl’s weekend away, there’s no better way to connect with your crew than a sunny weekend away from it all. One of my favourite places for a cheap and fun getaway is Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, just off West Africa. This sun-drenched island is dominated by the dormant volcano, Mt. Teide, the highest peak in Spain.
Tenerife has lovely beaches, cheap flights and a warm climate all year round, making it the ideal place to grab some winter sun with your girls. There’s so much more to Tenerife than just the bar scene, there’s brilliant beaches, dolphin spotting, a huge water park and biking trails all over the island. I’ve created a handy little guide on how to have an awesome girl’s weekend in Tenerife.Tenerife has lovely beaches, cheap flights and a warm climate all year round, making it the ideal place to grab some winter sun with your girls Click To Tweet
Explore Mount Teide
If you aren’t battling a raging hangover after a night on the town, exploring Spain’s highest point is definitely worth it, think of the #VolcanoSelfies you can bag. If you’re not up for a huge trek you can access Mount Teide via cable car. The Mount Teide volcano stands at an impressive 12,198ft above sea level, the modern cable car will whizz you 3,937ft above the crater floor and offers spectacular, panoramic views of the island.
Ride the rapids at Siam Park waterpark
Siam Park has built itself a stellar reputation as one of the world’s best waterparks. Lazy rivers, free fall slides and thrilling drops have a backdrop of lush vegetation and Thai inspired architecture. This popular theme park has a variety of exhilarating rides as well as family-friendly water attractions in this colourful and comprehensive park. It can get extremely busy on weekends, so perhaps schedule a weekday visit to avoid the crowds? Also, ladies, for the love of Thor, wear some sunscreen, you will burn to a crisp.
Stay in a luxurious villa
Make your Tenerife holiday extra special by spoiling yourselves with a luxurious villa. Instead of cramming into a small hotel room, stretch out and enjoy a spacious villa with the girls. If you have a bit of budget to splurge I would recommend getting a villa with a pool and a BBQ, so you can have your very own pool parties, drink Spanish wine and sizzle some sausages. Whilst it might be a higher upfront cost, you’ll save some money if you have a nice place to hang out in, rather than going out every night for meals and drinks.
Explore the local nightlife
Playa de las Américas is where you want to head for a big night out in Tenerife. Here you will find nightclubs, bars, live music karaoke and cabaret. If you are visiting the island in the winter, promo staff will try and lure you into bars with promises of cheap drinks and free shots.
Make sure you have a ‘cocktail boot’ when partying, these are sickly sweet cocktails in giant glass boots that makes for an enviable Instagram shot! Try Papagayo Beach Club or Monkey Beach Club for seaside party vibes.
Go biking off the beaten track
Hire bikes and explore the beaches of this sunshine paradise. Whether you are a biking beginner or a mountain bike pro, there is a range of routes and bike tours to suit all. There are some superb trails that will take you through several spots of unspoilt scenery and Instagrammable locations. If you are not a confident biker, book a bike tour with a reputable local company such as Bike Point Tenerife and explore the sunny island on two wheels.
Sun yourself on beautiful beaches
Top up your Vitamin D levels on one of Tenerife’s stunning beaches, slap on the sun cream and bask in a warm climate. You can sunbathe, swim or try your hand at watersports if you are feeling particularly active.[ezcol_1half][/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end][/ezcol_1half_end]
There is also a variety of beaches on this surprising island, choose from the famous black sand beaches, golden sand beaches or naughty nudist beaches. Particularly pretty beaches include Playa Jardín, Las Teresitas and Playa del Duque.
Go head to head at Minigolf
It’s just not a summer holiday with a round or two of mini golf! Go full on ‘Brits abroad’ and play some holes in a kitsch mini golf course with the girls. One of the best mini golf spots is Parque Santiago Mini Golf in Playa de las Americas. Here you can putt till your heart’s content in a quirky, mosaic course that features streams and colourful tiles. Watch you don’t get too competitive when golfing with the ladies, keep in mind it’s only novelty golf, not the Ryder Cup.
Go Dolphin watching
Tenerife is a dolphin watching hot spot so why not take to the seas and see if you can spot these playful creatures starboard side. There are lots of different dolphin spotting trips, from catamaran trips, sunset sailing and luxury trips. Get your Guide offers a range of tours in this area to suit all styles and budgets.
Dive along volcanic reefs
Tenerife has lovely, clear warm waters all year round, making it an excellent diving spot. If you are up for a bit of underwater adventure on your girl’s getaway make sure you explore the colourful marine life and underwater volcanic features including caves, columns and reefs in the balmy waters. Top diving spots include Puerto de la Cru, Las Galletas and Los Gigantes.
Go caving in Cueva del Viento
Cueva del Viento consists of 18km of lava tubes that you can explore with a tour guide. Put your hard hats on ladies and get ready to see lava lakes, fossils, stalactites and insects in this intriguing maze of underground caves. Make sure you book online first as visitor numbers are limited. Tickets are priced at €20 for an adult.
kitesurfing on El Médano beach
If you aren’t feeling too delicate after a big night out then you should consider gathering the girls and trying your hand at kitesurfing. Médano is an ideal place to start out, it has golden sands a has great surf. Book lessons with professional instructors if you are inexperienced. A kitesurfing course will cost around €150, and equipment rental costs around €45 per hour.
