Oh Lush cosmetics how I love thee, your stores are an opulent, colourful, sweet smelling, sparkle filled, consumer wonderland! How I yearn for all the bath bombs, handmade soaps, beautiful gift boxes and freshly made face masks. Lush are a company that inspire some pretty passionate fans and it’s not hard to see why. With ethical, cruelty free and vegan philosophies, combined with a firm commitment to product quality and freshness, their products are the next level in bath and beauty ranges. I love their pretty products that smell delicious, I’m never quite sure whether to bathe with their soap or to eat it?
Imagine therefore my excitement when I received invitation to the special ‘Bloggers night’ to celebrate the launch of the new Lush Spa Cardiff store. I was going to get to preview their new spa, sample some new products and have a little shop as well, heaven. Obviously my husband is going to have a heart attack when the Visa bill comes in, don’t worry sweetie, it’ll be totally worth it when I smell like a bath goddess.
The new Lush Spa features your favourite Lush products but with the added addition of a beautiful spa for customers to unwind and sample Lush-inspired treatments in. Featuring five treatment rooms and two double rooms, each with their very own individual theme, feel and music. As a huge spa fan I couldn’t wait to have a look around and start planning future treatments.
I met some of my blogger buddies at the entrance and the sense of anticipation and excitement was palpable in the air. Of course, one must selfie when in the queue for a Lush event and we snapped away like we were on the Cannes red carpet.
As you enter Lush you are first hit with the aroma of perfume and essences that fills and overwhelms the senses, this is one of the brilliant things about Lush, the ‘wall of scent’. I was handed my press pass and a gorgeous little candy floss martini and was introduced to Lush staff member Tessa, who would be showing me around.
The friendliness and the professionalism of the staff in Lush has long impressed me, you get the sense that they are just as much of an uber fan of the products as you are and their rhetoric seems completely genuine, rather than lifted straight out of a corporate sales manual.
We started with a tour of the new spa, which is situated in the upstairs of the store. As you exit the lift your immediate feel is homeliness, as the spa area is decked out in a beautiful ‘country kitchen’ décor with a definite ‘hygge’ vibe, that will surely inspire a million Pinterest pins? This is exactly how I want my house to look, instead of the mildly chaotic, wine stained residence that I call home.
We were shown around each of the treatment rooms and Lush staff explained the themes of the rooms and described the treatments on offer that include massages, facials, foot relaxations and more. The stand out ones for me are ‘Tales Of Bath’, which involves a full body massage and a bath. That’s right, you can have an actual bath in what looks like a Victorian style tub, where you can take a skin-soothing mineral bath in complete privacy, there’s no rubber duckies here, only a sense of tranquillity as you relax and de-stress in solitude. As we are tragically bereft of bath in the Jones household, I am seriously considering booking a spot in their tub for a bit of bath indulgence.
The other treatment that caught my eye was ‘The Comforter’, an indulgent chocolate scrub massaged on for a full body exfoliation with dreamy mood lighting and accompanying Beatles music to create a surreal ‘Sgt. Pepper’ feel. Being covered in chocolate has long been an ambition of mine and I would like to thank the good folk at Lush for making this girl’s dreams come true. I apologise in advance if I try and eat it off myself.
All the treatments look and sound incredible and have prices that are comparative to your average spa hotel. Prices for treatments start at £50 for a massage and then range from £85 for a 60-minute facial, to £285 for a three-hour treatment called The Planets. I personally would like to know how much it would cost to live in the spa please?
After our Spa tour it was time to go downstairs to sample some Lush goodies, this is the part I love in Lush blogger events, dropping bath bombs in sinks, trying out all the gorgeous creams, lotions and masks and chatting with staff to find your new favourite products. The new store has all your favourite Lush ranges but has the addition of new gourmet soaps and they are also stocking the new full range of Emotional Brilliance make-up, which has more than 90 pieces of make up in the range to get you looking lovely.
My favourite products in Lush are their amazing ranges of masks, so Tessa sat down with me so we could chat skin care, a lady’s prerogative. I love the freshness that you get with Lush skincare, as they incorporate fresh fruits, vegetables and organic materials where possible, so you are left with the feeling that pure goodness is going on your skin. The smells are also always gorgeous, unlike the chemical smell that other skin ranges can have. Lush minimise the use of synthetics and preservatives and a huge 65% of their products are self-preserving.
Their fresh masks smell like smoothies and are completely unpreserved. Pop them in the fridge to keep them fresh and you can then apply a lovely cool mask to your face of an evening, perfect for spring. Given that my skin is quite oily, we decided that the ‘Don’t look at me’ mask was a good call. This bright blue mask has lemon, silken tofu, rice syrup and grapefruit oil to scrub away unwanted cells. No horrid micro beads in these fresh masks, just natural ingredients to leave your skin feeling beautiful. I can’t wait to try it at home, maybe I’ll pop a dressing gown on, kick back and pretend I’m in a spa?
Next up was bath bomb testing, this is when us bloggers get to drop sweet swelling, pastel coloured bath bombs into sinks to watch them fizz and swoosh around as we learn about what is in each of them. It really does bring out the kid in you dropping a sparkly bath bomb into water and excitedly shrieking ‘LOOK AT ALL THE GLITTER!’ My favourite bath bombs of the night were the Golden Egg, a ridiculously glittery bath bomb with lovely cocoa butter and oils to give to super soft skin. I also loved the ‘Frozen’ Bath Bomb, I mean what girl doesn’t want to pretend to be Elsa in the bath? It explodes with an ice blue colour, releasing grapefruit oil and rose oil, so you will emerge from your bath smelling sweeter than ever.
It was then on to making your very own face mask on the demonstration station. This was great as you actually got to see on a micro-scale how Lush’s products are made whilst being talked through the process by their staff. The transparency of product content is what makes Lush special and when you can see ingredients right in front of you and then get to whip them up into your very own face mask to take home, you realise that this is consumer engagement and respect like no other. Go Team Lush! It was then time to take my leave, pay for my purchases, say goodbye to the lovely Tessa and go home to start sorting through the millions of photos I took.
In conclusion it was another brilliant blogger event at a lovely, shiny new store. Lush are leading the way in great products, an amazing new spa and fantastic staff. I highly recommend you check the spa out and book yourself in for some luxurious treatments! Check out their range of spa treatment on the Lush website and treat yourself today, go on girl, you deserve it!
