Early flights are the bane of travelling, especially if your departure airport is far away.

Travelling a lot often means late departures, crazy early starts, long layovers and the worst of all, delayed flights.

So what’s a girl to do to get some much-needed rest at the airport? If you are flying from Gatwick Airport in London, one of my favourite airport hotels to stay in is YOTELAIR London Gatwick.

What is YOTELAIR London Gatwick?

If you’re thinking that YOTEL sounds familiar, it’s because this hotel chain was founded by the YO! Company, the guys that brought us delectable sushi on a conveyer belt.

YOTEL’s have 3 city hotels but are largely located in airports, including Paris Charles De Gaulle, London Heathrow, Schipol Amsterdam and London Gatwick.

The YOTELAIR hotels are located right inside airport terminals and are bookable by the hour.

This means you can get a whole night’s rest or just have somewhere luxuriously cosy to curl up in for a few hours.

There are also extra amenities such as complimentary hot drinks and water available at the  24/7 reception, or ‘mission control’ as they adorably call it.

YOTELAIR London Gatwick South Terminal

YOTELAir [the use it’s full and proper name] is based in the South Terminal London Gatwick Airport. It is conveniently located moments away from the departure and arrival gates.

It is one of the best hotels in Gatwick Airport if you are looking for a hotel that is located in the airport and is reasonably priced.

The quirky hotel is also just a short ride from Gatwick’s North Terminal. this means that you can roll out of your cabin and onto your flight in a very short space of time.

You can choose from standard, premium and premium twin cabins at Yotel. All the cabins come with an array of smart, innovative and compact facilities.

Yotel Check-in

Yotel check-in is completed via their ‘Mission Control’, the hotel’s reception.

The check-in process was super fast and really straight forward and the staff were friendly and helpful.

When we checked in, we were offered a complimentary hot drink and we were informed that there were a range of items for sale if we needed anything extra?

Extra amenities include toothbrushes, coffee cups, alarm clocks, earplugs and fans. Mission Control is available and ready to help 24/7.

How much does Yotel cost?

How to book
Yotel has a set of day rates with a minimum of 4 hours stay. This is perfect if you just need somewhere to crash for a few hours.

Yotel Standard Cabin Rates start from:

  • 4-hour usage from £42
  • 6-hour usage from £52
  • 8-hour usage from £62

We stayed in a Premium Queen Cabin that sleeps 2 for our stay at Gatwick Airport and the rate was £79.00 for an overnight stay.

You can search for the best Gatwick hotel deals on Booking.com.

Our premium cabin was extremely futuristic looking and compact. “It’s like being in a sci-fi film”, husband Luke excitedly proclaimed. “Like we’re on a posh spaceship”. Thank Thor he is cute.

I have to admit, I was quite impressed with space in our premium cabin. Our cabin had a flatscreen TV, super-fast WiFi and an ensuite bathroom with monsoon shower.

The small but efficient cabin featured a pull-out table, adjustable lighting, under bed storage for your bags, and best of all, a retractable bed that turns into a sofa.

My inner child was simply delighted that you could press a button to move the bed back and forth. I am very easily amused.

You can also choose from a range of lighting, from full brightness right through to funky purple.

Your lighting choices depending on if you need to do some work or if you want to relax. I was a big fan of the purple mood lighting for drifting off to sleep.

It was a very comfortable sleep in our room and it was so quiet considering we were right in the middle of a busy, international airport.

In fact, the only noise was Luke’s snoring and occasional shouting in his sleep. Thankfully, I have grown accustomed to his night time oddities over the years.

Why stay at Yotel?

YOTELAIR is certainly a convenient and modern sleeping space and an ideal place to crash before a trip.

I often have super early flights departing from Gatwick airport as part of my work as a travel writer.

Review of YOTEL - a smart place to stay

It is actually great to arrive at the airport the night before and get some sleep, rather than travelling through the night as I normally do.

This means I don’t arrive at a new destination sleep-deprived and frankly, not smelling particularly great after a non-stop journey.
