Sky Lagoon Iceland is one of the newest additions to Iceland’s incredible thermal pool scene. Here, you can experience Icelandic Bathing Culture in gorgeous surroundings.
Located on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, this sleek geothermal spa opened in April 2021 and is a warming oasis that perfectly captures the essence of the wild Icelandic landscape. It’s one of my favourite spas in Iceland, and I’ve visited several times.
The lagoon has an impressive design that seamlessly blends with the natural surroundings. The standout feature is undoubtedly the infinity pool, which gives the illusion of merging with the ocean beyond.

Reception and check-in area
At check-in, you’ll receive a wristband linked to your credit card. This wristband is your locker key and can be used to purchase food and drinks.
You can use your locker to store all personal items, including money and clothing and access it anytime during your visit.
The Lagoon
The heart of Sky Lagoon is, of course, the huge lagoon itself. The water is naturally heated by geothermal energy from underground hot springs, which makes for a truly soothing spa experience.
The lagoon has a modern infinity pool design that gives the illusion of merging with the ocean beyond. This creates a surreal experience where you can soak in warm geothermal waters while viewing the surrounding mountains and sea.
The swim-up bar
One of the standout features of Sky Lagoon is the swim-up bar. Located right in the middle of the lagoon, the bar offers a variety of drinks, including beer and wine, as well as non-alcoholic options.
Enjoy a refreshing drink while soaking in the warm waters, creating a relaxing and luxurious experience.
Cold plunge pool
If you want the Wim Hof experience, Sky Lagoon has an icy cold plunge pool. The plunge pool is designed to shock the body with cold water after being in the warm lagoon.
Benefits include improved circulation, reduced inflammation, and a boosted immune system function.
If you aren’t used to plunging into freezing cold waters, take your time and slowly get in. Honestly, it’s definitely an experience not to miss!

In addition to the lagoon and plunge pool, Sky Lagoon also features a sauna and steam room for further relaxation and wellness benefits.
Traditional wood-burning techniques heat the sauna, while the steam room uses eucalyptus oil to help open up the lungs and improve respiratory health. There is also a relaxation area where you can unwind before or after treatment.

Sky Lagoon has two tiers of changing facilities, depending on what package you book:
- Pure Package has shower cubicles and a shared changing area.
- Sky Package has private showers and private changing areas.
Towels are free of charge, and hair dryers are also available in both.

These treatments include massages, facials, and other spa services that use traditional Icelandic ingredients such as algae and volcanic ash.

The seven-step ritual offers physical benefits such as improved circulation and skin health and mental benefits such as stress relief and improved focus – making it perfect for those looking to escape their everyday lives and reconnect with nature!
Step 1: The Lagoon
Begin your journey by immersing yourself in the warm geothermal pools of Sky Lagoon. The mineral-rich waters not only offer relaxation but also provide numerous health benefits.
Feel the soothing heat envelop your body as you float effortlessly, allowing the natural elements to work their magic.
Step 2: Cold Plunge
After luxuriating in the warm waters, it’s time to invigorate your senses with a plunge into the cold pool.
The contrast between warm and cold temperatures stimulates blood circulation, revitalizes your skin, and awakens your body. Take a deep breath and embrace the refreshing chill as you dip into the invigorating cold plunge.
Step 3: Sauna

The best feature of the lagoon is its incredible infinity edge, which gives the illusion of the swish lagoon merging into the Atlantic Ocean.
One of the best features is the lagoon’s swim-up bar, where you can order a glass of fizz while submerged in warm water—utter bliss.

The ticket prices may vary depending on the time of day, season, and additional amenities included in the package.

I think it was really worth it to fully experience the spa and try out the seven steps to see if I could improve my wellness.
Like most things in Iceland, the Sky Lagoon is expensive but worth it. There’s nothing like spending a few hours soaking in thermal pools, hopping into cold water plunges and having a steam to make you feel super relaxed.

Sky Lagoon has several food and drink options to refuel after swimming in thermal waters. On-site, you’ll find the Smakk Bar, Lagoon Bar and Sky Cafe, offering a range of Icelandic food and drinks on Sky lagoon menu.
At the Smakk Bar, you can feast on sharing platters packed with local produce, including Pickled herring from the village of Djúpivogur on rye bread, white mould Auður cheese and Reindeer, pork and goose wild game pâté.
The rustic Sky Care offers freshly prepared sandwiches, soups, and baked goods sourced from one of Iceland’s oldest and most renowned bakeries, Sandholt.
I would highly recommend ordering the local favourite – the gravlax bagel. This iconic dish combines the best of Icelandic cuisine, featuring thinly sliced, cured salmon layered on a freshly baked bagel.
At the Lagoon Bar, you can enjoy an Icelandic beer, cocktail or glass of wine right in the warming waters of the lagoon.
Is Sky Lagoon cheaper than Blue Lagoon?
The cost of visiting either lagoon will depend on factors such as entry fees, transportation costs, accommodation costs and other relevant factors.
Currently, the price for the Sky Lagoon Pure Lite basic entry package is ISK 8,500 (approximately USD $63).
This package includes entry to the lagoon and a comfortable towel, ensuring you have all the essentials for a delightful geothermal retreat.
Blue Lagoon’s ‘Comfort package’ costs slightly more at ISK 8990 (approximately USD $66). This includes entrance to the Blue Lagoon, a Silica mud mask, the use of a towel and 1st drink of your choice
Both lagoons also offer a range of premium packages with varying costs, depending on which package you book.

My personal experience at Sky Lagoon was overwhelmingly positive. The calm ambience, warm pools and rugged natural surroundings created an unparalleled relaxation experience in Iceland. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the overall excellence of the service.
It’s also one of the newer spas in Iceland, so everything feels very modern and fresh, with no obvious signs of wear and tear.
Overall, Sky Lagoon is definitely worth a visit. It encapsulates the essence of Iceland – a blend of raw natural beauty and modern luxury.

One of the best ways to explore Iceland at your own pace is to rent a campervan.
